Champions galore at cross-country championship

CGA finish off cross-country on a high.

IN the midst of 2016 Rio Olympic Games, Central Gauteng Athletics continues to produce champions as they hosted the 2016 Cross-Country Provincial Championships.

It was held on Saturday, August 13, at the Boksburg Stadium, as a build up to National Cross-Country Championships which will be held on September 10 in George.

Great performances were made by the men’s green team as they dominated and took the top three positions of the 10km event, which was deemed by most the highlight event of the entire cross-country season. CGA congratulates Phillimon Mathiba, of Nedbank Racing Club, on being the 2016 CGA 10km champion, clocking a time of 32:07. Cornelia Joubert, of Boxer Athletic Club, was crowned 2016 CGA 10km woman champion, clocking a time of 39:57. This was an unexpected victory for her and she hopes to place in the top six at the A-championship in order to go to the Cross-Country World Championship.
