Simpsons produces top little recyclers

The schools paper pick-up programme allows schools to raise funds while teaching children about environmental awareness.

SIMPSONS Little Learners Academy recently hosted Ronnie Recycler, from Mpact, who gladly collected all the children’s recyclable paper.

Mpact, in corroboration with the Mrs South Africa pageant, partnered with Tamzin Vassanjee, a Mrs South Africa finalist from the South, to reach out to Simpsons Little Learners Academy.

Yasmeen Adam, from Mpact, told the CHRONICLE that Mpact supplies schools and communities with 30 bags for the collection and storage of paper. Bags are placed in each class or office and, when all bags are full, they are picked up.

Mpact requires at least one full Ronnie Bank – which holds between 350kg and 500kg – per month. Learners, teachers, parents, offices and communities are all encouraged to support the Ronnie Bank on a weekly basis.

Mpact currently pays R300 for every ton of mixed paper collected and takes any form of paper, old memos/letters, cereal boxes, photocopying paper, newspapers, magazines, old telephone directories and books, envelopes and milk and juice cartons.

Adam and Vassanjee have partnered and will be visiting schools in the South. Many learners from Simpsons Little Learners Academy received their own Ronnie badges and bags, as well a certificate for each of the top learners who have brought in the most paper for their school thus far.

Mpact does not accept polystyrene/paper cups and plates, yoghurt cartons, sweet/chip wrappers, blueprint paper, cigarette ends, carbon paper, tissues and paper towels, post-it notes and waxed cartons (frozen fish cartons).

Mpact is also currently running a magazine drive until September and is in need of more magazines.
