Spectators urged to respect rules

Much anticipated derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

THE 2016/17 Premier Soccer League football season is set to start off with a bang when old rivals, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, square off in the sold out Carling Black Label Cup clash at FNB Stadium on Saturday, July 30.

The kick-off time is 15:30 but gates open at 11:00.

Stand tickets sold out two weeks prior to the highly-anticipated Soweto Derby with limited hospitality packages and Stadium Management Lounge tickets still available through all Computicket retail outlets and on www.stadiummanagement.co.za.

Patrons are also encouraged to purchase secure parking tickets ranging between R40 and R330 through the same channels while event day public transportation has also been made available through Metrorail, Top6 Taxis, KTK Shuttles and Rea Vaya to and from the venue.

“We are confident that we will be able to control the traffic between us, JMPD, the Gauteng Traffic Department and SAPS,” said JMPD Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar at the FNB stadium briefing on Monday, July 25. “We know that it is going to be hectic, but we ask all spectators who attend the Carling Black Label Cup and Lions match on Saturday to be patient and get there early.”

Strict traffic control measures start from 07:00 in the precinct. Non-spectators are encouraged to avoid the stadium precinct from 10:00 until 19:00.

Spectators are warned not to bring any prohibited items like sharp pointed objects, any form of liquor, metal objects including cans; offensive posters, banners, and flags. A full list of the prohibited items can be found on the Stadium Management SA (SMSA) website.

“We all could not wait for the start of the season with so much interest from within and outside the South African borders for the Carling Black Label Cup, which is effectively the biggest sporting event in the southern hemisphere,” SMSA commutations manager Sisa Majola said.

“Safety and enjoyment is a big priority for us and we encourage patrons to come early, enjoy the entertainment being provided on the day and to also listen to the messages and instructions given by the security personnel and marshals inside and outside the venue.”

The list of entertainment being lined up as part of the day’s festivities include renowned local artist Professor, top DJs Sphectacula and Naves and the Soweto Dance Crew.

Both soccer sides will be showing off their new kits and player signings for the season.

Pirates, affectionately referred to as the Mighty Buccaneers, are the Carling Black Label Cup defending champions having lifted this trophy an unprecedented four times in five previous editions. Amakhosi – as Chiefs are popularly known – will be out to add to their one triumph and start off on the right note at FNB Stadium, which is also their home venue.
