Community awareness focuses on fire safety this winter

The training was held at the Kibler park Fire Station

THE community forum together with the Mondeor SAPS and the Kibler Park Fire Department held its monthly community awareness training with Sarah Wissler (Glenvista and new residents association) and other representatives from the Fire Department and the SAPS.

The training was held at the Kibler Park Fire Station and kicked off with Constable Elizabeth Mguni, communications officer at Mondeor SAPS introducing the topic for discussion. Thereafter Wissler advised the attendees to continue to be cautious in their communities.

Samuel Sekoto from the fire department spoke on fire safety and security for children and families, how accidents are caused in households and how parents need to constantly be on the lookout around children, especially in winter.

The speaker for the day was Innocent Shibambo, also from the fire department, who spoke further on fire safety in households. Questions from community members were put to her and she advised community members on how to be safe this winter.

“I urge all adults in households to educate children on safety, especially around fire. Electric blankets for example must be switched off once it has made the bed warm and must be switched off at the wall. Irons and stoves must also be monitored and properly switched off,” said Shibambo.
