The Bag Lady

What's The Bag Lady been up to this week?

LAST week as I was complaining yet again about being overcharged at Glenvista Shopping Centre Checkers, a woman behind me had a trolley full to the top with groceries, and she said, “I never check my slip.” I advised she should.

It was the third time this month at Checkers that I’d been either overcharged or an item had been scanned twice. And I’m not talking about a few Rands, each time was over R20! The last time a packet of creamed spinach and feta which cost R39.99 for 500g had been scanned twice. What irritates me is I’m the one who has been wronged but I have to waste my time asking for assistance, waiting for the item price to be checked again and then filling in a book with my details. I’m rather afraid I lost it last week and even though the manager, or whoever he was apologised, I was still fuming!

Then at Woolworths Glenvista Shopping Centre, same hour by the way, I wanted to purchase a packet of four pork chops. What a performance. As I was going through the checkout the product wouldn’t scan and I tell you, the cashier asked ME what he should do! I advised I wanted to buy the chops so he should sort out the problem. He rang for assistance and an employee dawdled up and said she’d check. Off she went only to return four minutes later, none the wiser. By now I was seething and felt like throwing the packet of chops at the cashier, who told me they’d had the same problem yesterday! I asked him why hadn’t it been sorted out then? Another two minutes passed and the employee, still walking at a snail’s pace, brought a book and proceeded to go through it looking for a barcode. I ask you!

Arriving home after spending close to R900 on three bags of shopping, my husband asked if I’d enjoyed my shopping. I’m sure you can guess what I said!

To put it mildly, DON’T leave the shop before checking your till slip. If you only check it once you arrive home, chances are you won’t go back if you’ve been overcharged, the petrol would probably cost you just as much. I can honestly say, it happens to me at least once a week. Check those till slips.

Customer service is sadly lacking and I’ve made up my mind I’m taking it no more. From now on if I experience rude service or lack of service I’m calling for the manager. Watch out!

On the other hand I did experience great customer service at The Glen Shopping Centre Woolworths. I was looking for a product and Shereen (I forgot to ask for her surname) phoned me to let me know she couldn’t locate it but would let me know as soon as she could. Thank you.

Bouquet of the Week

Tracy gives Gerald at Auto Zone, Voortrekker Road, Alberton a bouquet. “He went the extra mile, thank you,” she said.

I think I’ve ranted and raved enough for this week. On that note, shop till you drop!
