Eikenhof Women’s Institute goes to Malta

Members of Eikenhof Women’s Institute wore masks for International Day, where they visited Malta, learning all about its history and people.

SUIDEROOD – President of the WI, Joy Boswell, gave some interesting facts about the country which was known as MLT many years ago. MLT meant shelter, appropriately named for all its sheltered harbours and coves.  Malta is now inhabited by about 350 000 people, with the country itself having no set identity, being made up of people from many other countries. It doesn’t have a national costume and complete independence was received in 1964. Malta produces olive oil, honey and pomegranate products as well as the famous Maltese lace.”

Members enjoyed lunch after the talk and discussed why they thought Malta will make a great holiday destination.

The next Eikenhof WI meeting will take place on Wednesday September 9 at 09:30 at St Andrew’s Church, Burger Street, Suideroord. For more information please phone Joy on 084 526 5857.
