Pensioners receive beautiful surprise

Beautiful garden assembled for the elderly as part of 67 minutes for Mandela Day

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – The Annie Burger Old Age Home in Crown Gardens was given a beautiful garden as part of the 67 minutes for Mandela Day initiative.

A collaboration of efforts by SOJO, City Parks, New Apostolic Church (Towerby), Booysens SAPS, Hatfield South Church and the Alcohol and Drug Concerns Unit, made the face-lift possible.

New Apostolic Church Towerby branch representative, Cassandra Ison, said: “Shepard Martin Fourie and I approached SOJO with the idea of doing a garden for the home. City Parks came on board and donated 12 trees; evergreens, rose bushes and plants.”

Other sponsors which made the event possible was the Old World Concretes which donated a concrete bench, bird bath and concrete table for the garden. Iprop contributed soil to level the garden out.

“The aim was to beautify the old age home for the pensioners to have a garden to sit in and go to when their families visit. We’re hoping to do more work for them and make it pleasant for the elderly people,” said SOJO CEO, Nicky Vakaloudis.

Ison and Vakaloudis thanked the Booysens SAPS, Alcohol and Drug Concerns Unit, Hatfield South Church, members of SOJO and New Apostolic Church for giving their 67 minutes for Mandela Day.

The Alcohol and Drug Concerns Gauteng are located at 5 Hammond Road, West Turffontein, and can be contacted on 011 433 2372.
