Grace Trinity drummies triumph at Nationals

"This is Grace Trinity’s first year of entering the Nationals and we won."

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – The drum majorettes of the Grace Trinity School for Girls scooped the top honours in Bloemfontein at the 2015 South African Majorette and Cheerleading Association (SAMCA) National Championship.

“We took first place and won gold in the President League. This is Grace Trinity’s first year at the National Championship and we won! 18 schools qualified for nationals and our girls went through to Bloemfontein last weekend. During the heats on Sunday, the team had to complete a non-prop drill, a throwing prop and large drill,” said Barbette Bonthuys, one of the excited parents.

The nine finalists had to complete the three drills again.

“The prize giving was held on Tuesday night and as we nervously awaited the results we counted down from position nine to two. When the announcer called out Laerskool Roodebeek in second place, we knew we had won our first national title!”
