MONDEOR – An offensive foul smell that was polluting the air confronted residents and learners walking on Bellafield Avenue in Mondeor every day for the past few weeks.
The direction of the smell seemed to be coming from a stream that is a pleasant feature on that long stretch of road.
Mondeor resident Norman Graad usually enjoys afternoon walks on Bellafield. He decided to investigate the origins of the stench.
Upon closer inspection, he discovered that sewerage was being discharged into the water by a severed pipe and contaminating the stream.
Ward 54 Cllr Sergio Dos Santos confirmed knowledge of the problem and that Johannesburg Water had dealt with the issue of sewerage seeping into the water.
