Making a difference

Alta McMaster, CEO of Epic Foundation, has come a long way since she first began the Comfort Pack Project from her home in 2010.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – In 2013 Epic Foundation was registered and in June of the same year Alta won the Lead SA Award. “This was absolutely amazing and gave me the boost I needed to carry on and further expand projects which can help community members. The Comfort Pack Project is for survivors of rape and abuse and is used at the initial reporting phase at police stations. We also do these packs for women and children arriving at shelters.

“The Fairy Godmother Project is aimed at girls and boys in their matric year who would not be able to attend their matric farewells without the financial means to afford an outfit and the Step Up Project is aimed at women in shelters, who need to develop skills which can empower them to be able to support themselves,” said Alta.

Recently Alta moved into bigger premises at Supreme Industrial Park. “We are always in need of items for our Comfort Packs, which include toiletries, pens and paper, crayons and colouring in books, cool drinks and sweets among other things. For the Fairy Godmother Project donations of evening, cocktail or matric farewell dresses, evening bags, evening shoes, evening accessories, some cosmetics, suits for boys, shirts, ties and shoes, are always needed.”

The Step Up Project was set up in December and Alta received donations of desk top PC’s but some of them are not fully functional and she needs more donations of computers, etc.

“Yes, our needs are great but these three projects really make a difference,” concluded Alta.
