Festive Crime overview by Mondeor SAPS

Four southern suburbs worst hit by silly season crime.

Mondeor SAPS reported that they had a challenging festive season in 2014 with crimes such as housebreaking and theft due to houses left unattended, as many residents were away with their families on holiday.

Other challenging crimes were murder and common assault which were as a result of alcohol abuse. According to crime a report by Mondeor SAPS for the month of December, two cases of murder were opened at the station and one of rape. Shoplifting incidences and also reckless and negligent driving cases were the most common in the sector.

A concerning number of cases of theft of property in vehicles which took place mostly at shopping centres, where the majority of vehicles affected were cars jammed with gate remote controls, were also reported.

The suburbs most affected by crime during the ‘silly season’ were Bassonia, Glenvista, Kibler Park and Naturena.
