Preventing trauma deaths with Mulbarton Hospital

The festive season is around the corner and people need to exercise extra caution while on holiday in coastal areas and near swimming pools.

MULBARTON – A staggering 70 000 deaths occur annually as a result of trauma-related injuries. Another 3.5 million people require some form of healthcare as a result of trauma-related complications and injuries.

Mulbarton Hospital hosted a CPR awareness campaign on October 17 as part of World Trauma Day, teaching ordinary citizens the basics of CPR. By knowing how to administer CPR, Mulbarton Hospital believes ordinary folks could save a life.

With more citizens knowing what actions to take in critical situations, it would be the start of a proactive approach in averting trauma-related deaths and lessening the burden on the healthcare system.

In 2011 alone, Netcare 911 responded to a shocking 102 calls for drowning and near drowning cases between October and November alone.

This is when knowing the basics of CPR will come in handy.
