Department of Education looks into sodomy at school

Gauteng Department of Education is looking at this matter.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – A concerned parent contacted the COURIER complaining about a 17-year-old boy who sodomised boys at a primary school in the South.

She said the 17-year-old sodomised a grade 1 learner in the toilets last month (August 2014). Her concern is that this matter has been brought to the principal’s attention and nothing has been done.

“Again in January this year, this 17-year-old sodomised another boy who ultimately died (she is not sure how he died). Also the girls are fondling with one another and there’s nothing happening to stop this. My daughter was also touched inappropriately by these girls. I want my child out of the school,” explained the mother.

The COURIER contacted the principal of the school in question, who denies these allegations.

Then Gauteng Department of Education was contacted with these questions:

• The mother whose child is at this school wants to know why the principal is not addressing this situation.

• When the COURIER talked to the principal and the principal flatly denied the allegations, can you investigate?

• What other channels parents can go to if similar incidents happen?

• Are primary schools allowed to have a 17-year-old and what is the age limit?

• If this incident took place, what will happen to the perpetrator and the victim?

The Gauteng Department of Education’s spokesperson, Phumla Sekhonyane, responded: “Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. The department views these allegations in a very serious light. We are investigating the allegations. The matter has also been brought to the attention of our Psycho Social Support Unit to intervene.”
