Queenshaven resident celebrates her 100th birthday

Martha (Mattie) Grobler celebrated her 100th birthday on Tuesday August 5 with a birthday tea for friends and family.

QUEENSHAVEN  – She moved into the Queenshaven Village on March 2 1976 and has spent 38 very happy healthy years living there. In 1989 she moved into the North House (semi frail) and since 2009 has been staying in Lalapanzi, the Frail Care Centre.

She has three surviving daughters, Vonnie, Septima who lives in Durban and Lenie who lives in Groot Marico.

Mattie has a huge family, including grandchildren and great grandchilden and says there are too many to mention!

She was a great knitter and sewer and she loved sports.  She loves reminiscing with her grandchildren about cricket and rugby and is known to know everything about the games. Mattie played cricket and netball herself!

Mattie loves visits from her big family and looks forward to relating stories from way back when to her grandchildren.

Vonnie and her friend, Ann Trudgeon, attended the 100th birthday celebration for Mattie at Queenshaven, arranged by Sister Isabella and her dedicated care staff.
