Golf day excels Turn n Tender’s expectations

Laughter and fun at Turn n Tender Comaro View Shopping Centre, Bassonia, was the name of the game on Saturday June 21 when the children of St Mary’s Children’s Home were treated to a sumptuous lunch.

BASSONIA – After the golf day which was held on Thursday June 12, at Modderfontein Golf Course, monies had been tallied and it was with great joy, Glen Dambo and Dimitri Papadakis from Turn n Tender, presented Sonja Harmse, director of St Mary’s Children’s Home, with a cheque for the grand sum of R165 000.

“This is absolutely amazing,” said an emotional Sonja, as she received the cheque. “The home has been going through tough times recently and this money is really going to help us. Thank you to all the people who attended the golf day, all the sponsors and those who gave so generously to make the day so successful and a special thanks to Dimitri and Glen. You have made such a difference to St Mary’s. Apart from this wonderful amount of money raised, the lunch today for the children and carers is fabulous,” said Sonja. It was one of St Mary’s children’s birthday and a delicious cake was baked for him.
“This is definitely the icing on the top for him. Thank you, thank you, thank you,” said Sonja.

The raffle was drawn with two winners for the two hampers.

When Karien Xenophontos heard about the children’s home, she made warm blankets, each one different, for all the children. “This is the least I could do and I’m sure they’ll be very welcome this winter,” she said. Cupcakes were also made by another sponsor, which the children loved.

On Saturday June 28, Turn n Tender and sponsors have also organised a day out to Gold Reef City Theme Park for all the children. “They are going to love it. It’s such a wonderful treat for them,” added Sonja.

As the children left for home, they all received sweet packs and hats, and with their blankets tucked under their arms, they boarded their buses, happy and looking forward to a fun day at the theme park.
