ADT May Domestic Watch Meetings Invite

Criminals use signs to tell each other about their crime prospects in an area.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – THE topic for May is “Crime Signage”, and a stack of actual signs used are included in the written lesson handout. Some aspects of this critically important lesson are as follows:

Obviously criminals use signs to tell each other about their crime prospects in a property and sometimes we are not aware that signs are being used.

Crime signs change according to the criminal syndicate and areas in South Africa

Actual messages and signs are used to communicate that: there are a few houses being robbed in that street; there are dogs; old people in the house; and even the number of residents in the house.

Colours can be used to mean: occupants can defend themselves; rarely at home; nobody at home; marked to break in, easy target; there is somebody in the house prepared to help.

Animals and birds can also tell you what is going on.

Criminals use chalk markings outside homes to help other criminals target the rich and vulnerable.

The public is asked to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity or signs to the police, the police will then use that information to investigate.
