Another Sassa outreach for the pensioners at Belem

The meeting was attended by over 100 people who were assisted with swapping their old cards for new ones.

THE South Africa Social Security Agency (Sassa) De Villiers office successfully held an outreach programme to assist pensioners with card renewals at Belem Cafe & Restaurant in Glenanda on Saturday, July 21.

The meeting was attended by over 100 people who were assisted with swapping their old cards for new ones.

Speaking to the Comaro Chronicle, Sassa De Villiers office manager Paul Miyambo, said the initiative will continue until the end of September.

“We will be doing this till the end of September and members of the community should visit our website on the different dates (weekends) we will be in different areas across Johannesburg. Our offices also open every Saturday to cater for all Sassa card changes till the end of September to ensure everyone is assisted,” he said.

GET BUSY: More pensioners receive assistance from Sassa officials at Belem Cafe & Restaurant in Glenanda on July 21.

He said as word of mouth spread around as to where Sassa officials were assisting people, the numbers of pensioners attending Sassa meetings in their areas also continued to increase.

Members of the community were also urged to keep in touch with local radio stations as updates on assistance from Sassa officials would also be made on those platforms.

“We have been working in partnership with local ward councillors, community development workers, traditional leaders and NGOs so that they can help us mobilise more people as most of the pensioners may fail to go to our offices for one reason or the other so we make it a point to come to them,” he added.

Ward 23 councillor Sarah Wissler said the turnout was great as more pensioners were receiving assistance to change their old Sassa cards in time.
