Finishing their last stop in Cape Town they will also participate in another gruelling event for their drive, the Cape Argus cycling tour, in which they will also create awareness for their beneficiaries.

The cyclists will not only donate money and products to charity organisations en-route to Cape Town, but will also support the World Bicycle Relief Organisation and promote the sport of cycling by donating bicycles to historically disadvantaged individuals.

“Sun City is pleased to once again support the Sun City to The Table Bay Charity Cycle Tour and give the cyclists the hero’s send-off they deserve. We wish the cyclists strength and perseverance as they embark on this epic and challenging journey. We look forward to tracking their progress and welcoming them back at Sun City on their return,” said Raul de Lima, general manager at Sun City.

Sun International has been involved with the Sun City to The Table Bay Charity Cycle Tour since 2003. Over the past 15 years, the Sun City to The Table Bay Charity Cycle Tour has donated approximately R9-million to various charity organisations. The Sun City to The Table Bay Charity Cycle Tour boasts a diverse mix of cyclists of all ages, and from different countries, some as far afield as Austria and Germany. Johann Mare, materials manager at Sun City and tour organiser, who has participated in every Sun City to The Table Bay Charity Cycle Tour since its inception, will once again take on the ride on tandem. Four of the riders in the 2018 tour have taken part in the event for more than 10 years.

It takes a lot of commitment, dedication and effort to prepare for an endurance event of this magnitude as without the necessary preparation, the cyclists would not be able to complete the event. The team has been preparing for the trek for the past seven months. Follow the cyclists as they make their way to Cape Town. Daily updates will be available at www.charitycycletour.co.za
