Conversation with a stranger: A multi-talented art director

The hands-on designer is ready to do great work if you are.

THIS week we caught up with a local art director, digital designer and illustrator, Nkosana Fidel Mongali (24), who is currently part of the conceptual team at Native VML in Sandton.

Also known as Prince the Creative, Nkosana thinks of himself as a multi-disciplinary creative who is hands-on with all of his projects. He is involved in projects from the idea phase all the way through to the production of his work.

“I am multi-disciplinary because I am an art director who not only designs but I also enjoy doing illustration work, and I can also edit videos and do a little bit of animation work,” said Nkosana.

Nkosana was born and raised in Sharpeville (a township between Vanderbijlpark and Vereeniging, also one of the oldest of six townships in the Vaal Triangle) in a close-knit family with his grandparents, parents and four younger siblings. He attended Park Ridge Primary School in Vanderbijlpark, and after moving to Kempton Park with his aunt in 2007 he attended Sir Pierre Van Ryneveld High School, where he completed Grade Eight to matric.

He then went on to study business principles and practice at Varsity College. He completed his BA in Creative Branding majoring in visual communications at Vega School of Brand Leadership, and then studied copywriting at AAA School of Advertising.

Although he lived in Kempton Park for the duration of his studies, the South has always been home to this creative, who lives in Ormonde and also has family in Bassonia and Lenasia.

With a passion for design and impeccable attention to detail, Nkosana’s work shows his capabilities and speaks for itself. His minimalistic approach results in clean and engaging work that demonstrates a perfect combination of art and elegance. He has also been a freelance designer for over five years and can be contacted on 062 545 3851 for any design work.
