Many couples are chosen to feature in the show. The CHRONICLE introduces its very own star couple from Oakdene, Timothy Hoffman and Sinead Voller.

M-NET has launched its new wedding reality show, The Wedding Bashers, where judges score various South African weddings. It began its broadcast during September this year.

Many couples are chosen to feature in the show.

The CHRONICLE introduces its very own star couple from Oakdene, Timothy Hoffman and Sinead Voller, who were married on Saturday, August 12, at the Halyards Hotel in Port Alfred.

The Hoffman relationship

The couple spoke to the CHRONICLE about their relationship and wedding, which is set to feature in The Wedding Bashers.

They met each other in their second year at the University of Johannesburg.

“Our relationship wasn’t easy. There was a lot of forgiveness to be had and a lot to be mended. I truly believe it’s by the grace of God that we are together and that we managed to get through it.

“Some couples go through the refining fire after 10 years of marriage, some only after a year. Our fire was definitely at the beginning,” said the couple.

They dated for one and a half years before getting engaged and were married a year later.

The couple shared their first kiss on campus.

“The engagement was very special, she was two hours late (and she’s always on time). My apartment was turned into an indoor picnic with fairy lights, rose petals, the works. We had dinner and then I asked her to marry me. We’re both very simple people so this fitted both our personalities perfectly,” said Timothy.

GORGEOUS: Timothy Hoffman and Sinead Voller were married in Port Alfred.

The wedding

The couple, mostly Sinead, had a vision for their wedding.

“We both fell in love with our venue when we were on holiday and promised we would get married there one day. However, the details I left up to her and she planned it to a T.

“Our main concern was that everyone was well fed and had a good time and I think we delivered,” said Timothy.

The couple saw the show being advertised on M-Net and entered online.

“After I entered the show, I sat back and thought, ‘What have you just done? You are giving the country licence to critique the most special day in your life.’

“After a while I began to feel comfortable with the notion, because I didn’t get a call until two or three weeks before the wedding. I thought to myself, ‘Okay, it’s too late to change anything now, and even if I wanted to, I won’t, because this is exactly what I envisioned.’

“I don’t work well under pressure, but I kept it together on the wedding day. It was such an experience and it’s something we will get to share with our kids one day,” recalled Sinead.

The couple’s theme for the wedding was classic elegance and the colours were black and white with hints of copper and rose gold.

Timothy and Sinead had no problems with planning. The bride had planned a budget, expenses, décor, dresses and everything.

“I think people make an unnecessary big deal out of planning a wedding. It’s not that difficult if you know what you want and you know your budget. It also helps to have a family as well equipped as mine – we can a throw a party together in a flash,” she said.

Timothy confirmed that the day was everything they had hoped for and would not have changed a thing.

A bit about the show

South Africans cannot get enough of seeing celebrity weddings featuring on shows like Top Billing on SABC3, and not forgetting Our Perfect Wedding on Mzansi Magic (DStv 161). M-Net is now partnering with The Wedding Bashers, produced by SIC Entertainment and Gavin Wratten (also responsible for Idols) in which South Africans can win big by having their weddings judged by a party of celebrity wedding crashers, who will weigh in on all aspects of weddings ranging from R20 000 to over R1-million.

The show is hosted by former Survivor South Africa host Mark Bayly, V-Entertainment presenter Denise Zimba, Food Network chef Siba Mtongana, former Miss South Africa Cindy Nell-Roberts and former Survivor SA Champions star and wedding planner Zavion Kotze, who also has a show on VIA (DStv 147).

The Wedding Bashers will see Denise snark over the wedding entertainment, Siba judge the food, Cindy weigh in on the fashion and Zavion giving his view about the décor.

“So our wedding bashers are going to be going to weddings and judging each wedding. And while the show is called Wedding Bashers, it’s actually ‘The Wedding Bash’. We’re not really there to try and rip everybody’s wedding apart,” said Wratten.
