The Lions had all to play for as they had to beat the Cheetahs on home soil to grab the last semi-final spot available. The first half saw these two sides in a tightly contested match and the Lions went into the break leading 13-10. Both teams scored a try but the home team could not find space to move around the ball as the Cheetahs was impeccable on defence.

Coming out of the break the Lions brought their Springbok hooker, Malcolm Marx on and then it was a totally new ball game. The Lions dominated play in the second half resulting in the 44-17 win.

Man of the Match, Cyle Brink, who hails from Alberton, not only played a humdinger of a match for his team but also scored one of the tries.

The Vodacom Blue Bulls kicked off the round on Friday with a convincing 52-32 victory against the Steval Pumas to force their way into the top four while DHL Western Province defeated log-leaders, the Cell C Sharks, 31-20 to secure the second home semi-final.
