ON Wednesday morning, August 2, armed robbers held up staff at a second-hand dealership in Vereeniging, taking 11 sets of car keys and stealing three Mercedes Benz vehicles.
According to Mike Fontes (chairman of Mondeor Sector 1 CPF) they received information the three Mercedes-Benz motor vehicles were being tracked into the Mulbarton area.
“Our patrollers were quickly out looking for the vehicles and soon spotted two of the wanted vehicles near the Shell garage on True North Road, Mulbarton. We quickly established one vehicle was left to cool off at Mulbarton Shopping Centre and another in the parking area of Netcare Mulbarton Hospital.
“We kept our eyes on the vehicles until SAPS, Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) and the tracking companies arrived to recover the vehicles. We believe the suspects left the vehicles to cool off and they were picked up by a white Land Rover SUV on True North Road, Mulbarton. The third vehicle was recovered on the R59 motorway,” said Fontes.
He added, “The information initially came through from other CPF members from Brackenhurst and other areas. Fast communication and teamwork is critical in preventing crime. Our message to car theft syndicates is pick another suburb to stash your stolen cars, we’ve got this one covered and we have your DNA, fingerprints and CCTV footage of your faces.”
