Magical musical evening on the farm
Tuck into a warming bowl of curry and rice as youy listen to the band play their hits on the stoep of the historic Meyer farmhouse,
JOIN Stepping Stone Hospice at the iconic Meyer Farm on Friday, September 1, for an intimate evening with the super-talented Deon van der Merwe and Ruhan du Toit from the popular band Touch of Class.
The duo has shared the stage with some of the country’s most successful artists at some of the biggest music festivals and concerts on the calendar.
Their heartfelt rendition of the popular Simon & Garfunkel hit, The Sound of Silence, received standing ovations at Classics is Groot and Afrikaans is Groot in 2016, and the music video of the cover has received more than two million hits on YouTube since its release in June 2017.
Their double album, 100 Duisend Perde, which was released in 2016, reached platinum status within seven months and produced several chart-topping hits.
“We owe their involvement to our hospice patron, Corlia Booysen, who has taken this project under her wing and managed to secure the sought-after duo for the night,” explains Stepping Stone Hospice’s fund-raising manager Marietjie Tame. “Guests can tuck into a lekker boerie roll or warming bowl of curry and rice as they listen to the band play their hits on the stoep of the Meyer farmhouse, hence the ‘Oppi Plaas’ theme.”

There will also be a cash bar on the night.
This event is one in a long line of ‘Hospice happenings’ from now until the end of the year, as the organisation tries to raise funds to reach the R16-million budget which was set for the year.
Stepping Stone Hospice & Care Services receives no government funding and is totally reliant upon the generosity of the community, through fund-raising efforts, bequests, donations and the sale of second-hand clothing and goods.
“I am especially excited that we get to host this wonderful event in such a beautiful and historic setting,” says Stepping Stone CEO, Tersia Burger. “The Meyer Farm is an Alberton landmark and we are so grateful to the family for embracing our hospice, which is itself the first-ever of its kind in Alberton.”
