Community grateful for woolly winter-warmers
Businesses continue to spread warmth this winter by collecting and making blankets for the less fortunate.
THE elderly from Jackson’s Drift Informal Settlement in Eikenhof were recently blessed with numerous boxes of blankets and scarves courtesy of Victoria’s Hair and the Shenique Wellness Centre.
The two businesses gave a total of 47 blankets and 46 scarves to the elderly in the settlement – with good cheer. Most of the blankets were handmade – plush and soft to provide the ultimate winter warmth – but many blankets were also bought.
Founder of the Boithuto Community Project, Louisah Rafoma, started the project in 2012 and sees approximately 160 children and many elderly in the settlement being fed daily. The monthly grocery parcels which are donated by the parents of Waterstone College, were also handed out to the families.
“Food parcels are received monthly and we are extremely grateful to Lorna Abrahamse and the parents of Waterstone College for their unwavering contribution to helping the needy and giving back to the community,” said Tracey Le Roux from the Boithuto Community Project.
Samantha Van Heerden from Shenique Wellness Centre and Vicky Sequeria from Victoria’s Hair wish to thank all their clients who donated blankets to the blanket drive which they ran for a few months. A special thank you also to the ladies who spent time putting together the squares for the blankets.
