How to adopt a pet at the Jhb SPCA

The Johannesburg SPCA urges you to adopt a pet at their kennels, read more on the adoption process here.

If you have ever wondered how to go about adopting a pet, look no further because the Johannesburg SPCA breaks down the adoption process for us.

How to adopt a dog

To adopt a dog will cost you R500 in total

All you have to do is visit the SPCA kennels on 5 Benray Road, Reuven and have a look at the pets that are up for adoption.

The SPCA will then do a home inspection and they will need a copy of your identity document, proof of residence and a R100 deposit.

The inspectors will check to make sure that your garden is big and secure enough and that you have a proper dog kennel on your property.

Once the inspection is completed, and the inspection is approved, then the SPCA will sterilize the dog, male or female, vaccinate the animal and give it a microchip and de-worming medicine.

You can be rest assured that you will get a call from the SPCA to collect the animal and finalise the adoption papers.

Once this is done then you will be required to pay the remainder R400 balance.

The process to adopt a cat is the same but only costs R270.

Contact the SPCA on 011 681 3600 to adopt a pet today.
