Book worms visit Bargain Books

“Events such as these are truly a great way to share the importance of reading and love for books with those less fortunate. This event is definitely a great reminder to us all of the importance of reading. Nowhere is the joy of reading more magical than when a young child picks up a book and gently balances the book on their knees or lap and enters an enchanting world."

RECENTLY some of the children from St Mary’s Children’s Home were treated to a reading at Bargain Books the Glen Shopping Centre, after the manager, Annelize Von Molendorff, decided to begin a monthly book reading for children from children’s homes in the South.

STORY TIME: Tiana Davids from Bargain Books read stories to the children, which kept them entertained.

“We invited some of the younger children from St Mary’s to spend a few hours in the shop with us where they enjoyed stories and then they each received a book voucher for R50, which they could spend in the shop. We also played a few games and Sizwe Nhlapo, from the shop, dressed up as Funda Book Worm. The children then enjoyed snacks and party packs.

“Events such as these are truly a great way to share the importance of reading and love for books with those less fortunate. This event is definitely a great reminder to us all of the importance of reading. Nowhere is the joy of reading more magical than when a young child picks up a book and gently balances the book on their knees or lap and enters an enchanting world. Most of us can remember entering readathons or supporting Friends of the Library. These are some milestones in a reader’s life, a rite of passage that we take for granted. There is nothing better than giving a child a book and letting them start a journey of self-discovery and love for literature. Bargain Books the Glen will continue to bring these magical experiences to those children that need it,” said Bianca Adendorff, Marketing Manager Bargain Books.

A BIG HUG: Funda Book Worm loved all the hugs from the children.
