Learners to compete in USA

Learners competed in sporting events and were nominated to compete at the International Student Convention to be held at the University of Indiana in Pennsylvania.

FIFTEEN learners from Alpha and Omega Christian Academy recently competed in a convention held at the University of the Free State and participated in a number of events ranging from dance to choir and small and large ensembles.

Alpha and Omega Christian Academy is a private school located in the southern suburbs of Johannesburg and has a full student complement of 175 students ranging in age from 15 to 19.

The fifteen learners also competed in a number of sporting events and achieved recognition in all their events, resulting in these students gaining nomination to compete at the International Student Convention to be held at the University of Indiana in Pennsylvania in the United States of America in May 2017.

“This is a phenomenal achievement considering the size of the school. An achievement that we are especially proud of is that our girls’ volleyball team achieved a distinction of note by becoming the first ever girls team to gain a nomination to the conference. This has never before been achieved. All of these students form part of the South African contingent and will be flying the flag high and hopefully will come back with other distinctions,” said principal of the school, Pastor Wesley Ebrahim.

For these students to compete they need to raise in excess of R 580 000, which will cover their travel, accommodation, food and entry costs for the event.
