UNIVERSAL Concept of Mental Arithmetic Systems’ (UCMAS) learner, Chanda Lupambo (11) obtained a third placing in the 21st International UCMAS Abacus and Mental Arithmetic Competition held in Dubai in November 2016.
He is a Grade Six learner at St Martin’s Preparatory School in The Hill, Johannesburg,
This was his second time participating in the UCMAS international competition.
More than 34 countries were represented by about 3 000 students. Nineteen students from UCMAS South Africa qualified to participate in Dubai.
Chanda had just eight minutes to complete 200 questions. Armed with self-confidence and determination, he only had the acquired mental arithmetic skills, such as concentration, observation, imagination, judgement, application and reasoning to help him achieve this auspicious performance with no calculator.
Chanda began practising the art of UCMAS at an early age.
He will continue to work hard in preparation for the 22nd international competition, to be held in Bali, Indonesia, in December 2017.
UCMAS is a unique and scientifically proven programme designed for children to develop their latent mental power at a very early age, when brain development is reaching its peak.
The programme is aimed at children between the ages of four and 13 years
It offers learners an opportunity to accelerate their progress in mental ability, mental development and mental excellence.
Learners practise using an abacus, and they develop arithmetic ability to do calculations speedily, regardless of their complexity.
UCMAS makes learning easy.
