Domestics Watch teaches telephone safety

Michael Bailey from SOS Security spoke on the importance of knowing emergency numbers

A DOMESTIC Watch meeting was held at the Glenvista Shopping Centre on Thursday, February 16, where SOS Protec Sure presented a talk on home and telephone safety.

The meeting started with one of the domestic workers sharing her experience of being tied up and her employers’ house being ransacked. The victim encouraged the rest of the women at the Domestic Watch meeting to always be safe. She said renovations were taking place at the house where she worked and some well-dressed men arrived and demanded to be let into the property as “they were also working on the site”. The victim voiced her feelings and spoke of how the incident had impacted her health.

Michael Bailey, from SOS Security, spoke on the importance of knowing emergency numbers and having them saved on speed dial. The use of panic buttons was also emphasised.

“All of us need to know our police numbers in case of emergencies, know addresses and street names and we must have emergency numbers saved on our phones,” said Bailey.

Yolanda Robertson, from the Glenanda South Community Policing Forum, spoke about the importance of communication between employers and employees, to avoid misunderstandings.
