The City holds annual meetings to gather input from residents.

THE City of Johannesburg is calling on property owners to shape the new 2017/2018 Property Rates Policy by taking part in the public consultation meetings, that have kicked off in many parts of Johannesburg.

The City of Joburg team was welcomed by a host of Mondeor residents at the Mondeor Recreational Centre, on Tuesday, January 24.

The rates policy review is driven by property owners and the City takes this input when drafting the final policy. Residents are encouraged to take an active part in the public participation meetings of the policy review.

The first public participation meeting for the residents to make their inputs began on January 21. The process of the rates policy review reflects the City’s Ten Point Priority of a responsive government.

Since 2008, when the rates policy and rates by-laws were first implemented, the City has held annual meetings across the region and taken input from residents.

Some of the bold inputs the City has incorporated include having reduced the business property ratio from 3.5 to 2.6 and increasing the number of residential property owners who have benefited in massive rebates in recent years.

Residents are encouraged to lead the changes they want to see in the rates policy by taking part in the public consultation meetings in their areas.
