Wheelchair changes Pam’s life

The donation came at a perfect time as Pam had a hip replacement four months ago, at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.

PAM Bekink (71), who has been living in the South for the past 35 years, received a brand new wheelchair from the Al-Imdaad Foundation, on Wednesday, January 18.

She said she saw an article in the CHRONICLE last year about the foundation donating a wheelchair to Anne Suzanne van der Linde. “I then thought I also need a wheelchair, because I am struggling to walk. I made contact with the foundation and today am the proud owner of a new wheelchair. I am so grateful for their kind gesture, it really means a lot,” said Pam.

The donation came at a perfect time as Pam had a hip replacement four months ago, at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital. “The sole of my shoe was loose and I slipped in my yard. I fell very hard and had to then undergo this operation. I used a walking stick to get around but it was very tiring. The wheelchair will be most handy,” she said.

Mohamed Chodree, from the foundation, said they were happy to help Pam. “At Al-Imdaad Foundation we strive to serve humanity. We urge others in need to come forward or let us know about someone who may need help,” he said.

The Al-Imdaad Foundation is a non-profit humanitarian aid relief organisation (NGO) dedicated to providing humanitarian services in crisis and non-crisis situations to needy orphans, widows and the destitute, irrespective of race, religion, culture and geographical boundaries.

The foundation operates in 65 countries around the world and has five regional offices in South Africa, including one in Ormonde, Johannesburg South.
