Certificates awarded to CPF patrollers

"Patrollers and volunteers are not paid, not because they are worthless, they are priceless! The most precious thing to do is give your time. Money can be replicated but your time can’t. To all your families who are waiting for you at home, I thank them for supporting you.”

AT a Mondeor Sector One Crime Forum meeting with Mondeor SAPS, 60 CPF patrollers were recognised for what they do in the community to curb crime.

Deon Pillay (chair of the meeting) opened and welcomed everyone and gave apologies. Captain J Madaray (Visible Policing Commander) gave a crime overview and Craig Tsakos (deputy chair Sector 1) spoke about the festive season community safety plan for December. “Robberies in shopping centres, armed robberies in residential areas and theft out of vehicles were the main crimes last December. We need to become more visible and change our operations. This December we are planning four big operations and Monder SAPS will be with us for the duration. CPF patrollers will be given rosters and dates for over the festive season.”

Chairman of Mondeor Sector One Crime Forum, Mike Fontes, gave thanks to all the patrollers who give of their time. “Our numbers have grown from 51 to 57 and our VSU (Victim Support Unit)now has 17 counsellors. This year was a year where we forged closer working relationships with Mondeor SAPS and next year we’d like to work closer with JMPD. A huge thanks to you all who put your life on the line every day. Yes, four big operations are being planned for over the holidays and we are hoping to get good support from the community. Thank you to our residents who play a vital role in bringing criminals to justice and to EMS (ER24 and Netcare 911).”

Michelle Pelser (chairlady of Mondeor Precinct CPF) added her thanks, “It’s a huge task volunteering to become a CPF member and most residents have no idea what you do. Thank you to JJ (Colonel JJ Bezuidenhout, Mondeor SAPS Station Commander) for all you do.”

The meeting came to an end with Colonel JJ Bezuidenhout giving his thanks. To Mike and Julie Maule from Caxton South, thank you. We’ve come a long way and made inroads in our relationships. Patrollers and volunteers are not paid, not because they are worthless, they are priceless! The most precious thing to do is give your time. Money can be replicated but your time can’t. To all your families who are waiting for you at home, I thank them for supporting you.”

The awards were handed out and the evening finished with refreshments.
