Eikenhof WI learns how to handle stress

“Our bodies are designed to adapt to these stresses in a positive way but sometimes we find ourselves overloaded by stress. In an effort to cope with this overload, the body stores the stress in the muscles and this is what we call body stress."

GUEST speaker at the November meeting of Eikenhof Women’s Institute, Brigette Blaeser, spoke to the members about body stress release and what it entails.

“We all live with stress which can affect our bodies in various ways and every day we are exposed to different types of stress.
“Mechanical stress is an injury, strain or bad posture; chemical stress comes from air pollutants, additives and colourants in food; and then there’s mental or emotional stress.

“Our bodies are designed to adapt to these stresses in a positive way but sometimes we find ourselves overloaded by stress. In an effort to cope with this overload, the body stores the stress in the muscles and this is what we call body stress.

“Body stress can lead to pain, stiffness, postural disposition, numbness and cramp. Tension in the muscles can put pressure on your nerves which disturbs your body’s communication system. This reduces the efficiency of your body’s natural healing ability.”

Brigette went on to explain what can be done to help with body stress, unlocking it and restoring self-healing.
The talk was well received by the members and tea was served afterwards.

One of the long-serving members, Anne du Plessis, enjoyed her last meeting at the club and all her friends there wished her well for her imminent move to the coast.
