Two arrested for attempted truck hijacking

The men demanded that the truck driver follow them, but, luckily, the driver noticed some JMPD officers on the side of the road and swerved the truck, managing to stop in front of the officers.

TWO males were arrested and detained at Mondeor Police Station on October 6, at about 11:20.

According to Mondeor SAPS communications officer Captain Nokulunga Dube, a truck was driven from Brakpan to make deliveries at the corner of Swartkoppies Road and Kliprivier Drive.

“The driver of the truck was waiting at the traffic lights, when he was suddenly approached by six armed males in a silver/grey Toyota Tazz, who pointed a firearm at the truck driver and his acquaintance. Two of the men managed to open the passenger side of the truck and jumped into the vehicle,” said Captain Dube.

The other men then got into the Tazz and demanded that the truck driver follow the Tazz.

Luckily the victim noticed some JMPD officers on the side of the road and swerved the truck, managing to stop in front of the officers.

Two males were then arrested and detained and will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates Court on a charge of attempted truck hijacking.
