READING Bowling Club played host to the level three Bowls Umpires course for Bowls South Africa recently.

From Wednesday, September 21 to Saturday, September 24, the Reading Bowling Club was the venue for this four-day course.

For those not in the know, bowls umpires are graded into four levels of which level one is at club level, level two is at district level, level three is at national level and level four is at international level.

Bowls South Africa standing committee consists of six members of which four took part in the Alberton course. They are Dirk Malomgré (convenor), Renée Venter (secretary), Bob Radcliffe and Don van Vuuren. All committee members proudly wear a level four badge.

The significance of the course at Reading Bowls Club is that they are training a number of candidates for level three as a start to prepare them for the Commonwealth Games which will be hosted in South Africa in 2022.
