Meet Miss Heritage Gauteng 2016

Having the privilege of being crowned Miss Heritage Gauteng 2016, Miss India Gauteng 2015 and Miss India SA First Princess 2015, she believes she was handed these honours to be a role model to the next generation.

SHERIANNE Pillay (22), the current Miss Heritage Gauteng 2016, has her aim set on winning the National Miss Heritage SA pageant, on September 22.

With September being Heritage Month, the Apartheid Museum in Ormonde has invited Sherianne and seven underprivileged children to a complimentary visit to their heritage site, on September 10.

The fourth year law student at The University of the Witwatersrand, tutors scholars part-time, using her skills and experience to encourage and uplift students.

Having had the privilege of being crowned Miss Heritage Gauteng 2016, Miss India Gauteng 2015 and Miss India SA First Princess 2015, Sherianne believes she was handed these honours to be a role model to the next generation, to encourage others to embrace their heritage, while making a difference in South Africa.

“I have launched an NPO called Princess Diaries, through which I deliver motivational talks at schools to inspire our youth,” she says.

”I am also involved with Queen for a Day and the Slipper Day initiatives, driven by Reach for a Dream, focused on children diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses, and I volunteer at Babies behind Bars, which is an initiative that supports babies in prisons across Africa.

”I am also involved with other charities, namely, iKholwa, Siyabonga Dorah’s Ark, Cupcakes for Kids With Cancer, Have a Heart Centre, Teens Haven and Frank’s House – all organisations which I hold dear to my heart.

“In honour of the commemorative days we have in South Africa, I strive to consistently perform community outreach initiatives in my personal capacity, in an effort to create awareness among the youth of the many victories and opportunities that we are blessed with today through the countless sacrifices made by the great heroes and elders of our past.”

As the representative for Gauteng, Sherianne wants to communicate the passion she shares for the youth and the country through pageants.

There are a number of elements to the pageant and, for a specific requirement, each contestant is required to promote the province and heritage through some form of media, which will contribute to a percentage of her final score for the crowning of Miss Heritage SA.
