Miss Earth cleans up at Rietvlei Zoo Farm

The earth sisters did a fantastic job engaging with the volunteers, sharing thoughts and ideas on recycling and how to be Earth Warriors

SIXTY willing volunteers gathered at Rietvlei Zoo Farm for the inaugural #VolunteerWithMissEarth amid much fun, laughter, learning, greening and removal of litter.

Dion Perry from Rietvlei explained to volunteers the challenges and effects of pollution on the waterways and how clearing the waterway of litter and debris would ensure the flow of the water and the protection of one of our most precious resources. The lovely Ilze Saunders from Miss Earth chatted about #WasteStopsWithMe, the importance of recycling, how each and everyone of us has a vital role to play and how we can play it.

Earth sisters and finalists, Makhosazana Dubazana and Lesego Seloane spoke passionately about the environment and projects that they are involved in. Then it was time to roll up our sleeves and get to work. Volunteers from St John’s, Roedean, Waterstone College, Marist Brothers, Oprah Winfrey, St Teresa’s, Cliffview Primary, Maryvale, Holy Rosary and the Othandweni Children’s Home picked up bag after bag of rubbish to add to an ever growing pile.

The earth sisters did a fantastic job engaging with the volunteers, sharing thoughts and ideas on recycling and how to be Earth Warriors. A special thanks goes out to Rietvlei, Miss Earth, volunteers and parents for a successful morning.
