It’s the Cansa Relay for Life

The Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) is inviting people to the annual CANSA Relay For Life.

THE Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) is inviting people to the annual Cansa Relay For Life.

The event will take place at the Germiston City Football Club on October 14 and 15, from 18:00 to 06:00.

For R1 500, a team of 15 members can sign up for this special event. Relay For Life is a fun, overnight team event that raises awareness of cancer, as well as much needed funds to fight it. During the relay, teams of 10-15 co-workers, friends, neighbours and families commit to keeping at least one member walking the track at all times, because cancer never sleeps.

Each team member submits a registration fee of R100 (ages 13 and up); children between six and 12 years register at R50 each and children under six years are free.

During the second annual event, in 2013, the East Rand community came together to celebrate cancer survival and remember those lost to the disease.

Together, 203 teams with over 4 500 participants and 217 cancer survivors fought back against this dreaded disease that has taken too much from too many of us, by raising nearly R1,5-million in the global fight against cancer.

“This year, our goal is to encourage the Alberton Community to live healthy lives and to be proactive with early detection screenings,” says Ayanda Ngcofe, from Cansa.

“We hope for at least 50 teams and 150 cancer survivors from the community, and to raise at least R200 000 in the global fight against cancer. The event is guaranteed to be fun-filled and exciting, with many surprises in store.”

Entertainment by various local artists, the Relay Recess Superheroes, Toktokkie and many more can be expected.

To register your team and/or as a cancer survivor, or for more information, contact Ngcofe on 076 338 4318/011 894 1417, or via email at angcofe@cansa.org.za please. Space is limited.
