Public donations well used by SPCA

The previous kennels were poorly built and were falling apart and today there are new kennels for the animals

THE SPCA in Benray Road, Johannesburg, recently contacted a local contractor with the hopes of constructing new kennels for the animals.

Rory Hansel, owner of Phumula Nethezeka, was contacted in October last year by the SPCA in Reuven regarding new dog and cat kennels.

“The previous kennels in this area were poorly built and were falling apart. It was requested that we demolish these kennels and replace them with new ones to match,” said Hansel.

He said the new kennels had to be constructed in a manner that required as little maintenance as possible and also had to match existing units that had been tried and tested before.

With Dennis Preston (head of the board) and Ann Smilkstein from the SPCA both having pragmatic viewpoints and plans, quotes and contracts were drawn up in no time.

According to Hansel, the project quickly developed, always with practicality and budget constraints in mind. Today there are two comfortable dog kennels and one cat kennel.

“This is the end result made possible by the passionate staff members of the SPCA and the kind, generous donations made by the public. One can clearly see how the public’s kind contributions have been put to excellent use,” he concluded.
