Show your support for rape survivors

The 702 Walk the Talk encourages participants to walk for a cause.

FORMER Lead SA Hero Alta McMaster is rallying walkers to walk for her Epic Foundation in this year’s 702 Walk the Talk. The Epic Foundation helps rape survivors by collecting and delivering toiletry packs to victim empowerment centres.

The 702 Walk the Talk encourages participants to walk for a cause and Alta is encouraging people who are not walking for anyone yet, to join her cause and walk against abuse.

Alta was recognised as the Lead SA Gauteng Hero in June 2013 for her selfless efforts in helping rape survivors.

A rape survivor herself, Alta decided to use her ordeal to help other survivors deal with theirs through her foundation, which helps survivors get back on their feet and by sharing her story, she hopes to encourage others to join her cause.

Alta wants to raise awareness of and funds for the foundation’s different projects. Currently her organisation puts together comfort packs filled with toiletry items to be used during the initial reporting phases of rape and abuse. In 2015, they distributed almost 8 000 comfort packs.

The Epic Foundation also assists with counselling, support groups, referrals for legal advice, court preparations, self-protection classes, motivational talks, education and awareness campaigns. Apart from that, Alta assists with the Fairy Godmother Project that provides matric farewell outfits to boys and girls who cannot afford their own.

This year’s 702 Walk the Talk will take place on Sunday, July 24, from Marks Park Sports Club, Emmarentia.
