Blankets for winter

To donate blankets to the foundation visit them at 123 Columbine Avenue or contact their office on 011 942 1193.

BOKANG Mosia Foundation in Mondeor is determined to collect and donate 1 000 blankets to needy children this winter.

During the launch of the blanket drive on Thursday, May 19, the foundation acknowledged the 80 blankets they distributed last year to Usindiso Ministries, Ikusasa Lethu, Motshwaledi camp and Liza Nhlapho Home in Pimville.

Bokang will be turning 10 years old on September 22 and his dream is to see no children sleeping in plastics and cardboard under bridges. The foundation wants to bless the less fortunate and do more for the community of the South. “Please help me to help other children, donate blankets, we need to reach 1 000 blankets for the needy children,” he pleaded.

The foundation focuses on assisting underprivileged children from disadvantaged communities, homeless children, terminally ill and injured children, children born and living in prison and senior citizens. Seven other projects lined up for this year are as follows: June – winter blanket drive; July – Nelson Mandela Day; August – senior citizen day; September – every child’s birthday, childhood cancer awareness month and fund-raising day; October – family day and November – national children’s day.

In October 2013, Bokang was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour and had to undergo an operation, chemotherapy and radiation. He always describes himself as a ‘champion’ due to the 27 stitches in his head and he says only a champion would survive what he went through.

To donate blankets to the foundation visit them at 123 Columbine Avenue or contact their office on 011 942 1193.
