The tough got glowing
The weather may have been less than ideal but that didn’t stop the party.
ARMED in their best neon umbrellas, jackets and dancing shoes, thousands of Joburgers descended on Wanderers Stadium for the 5km fun run and music festival on Saturday, May 14.
“We were looking forward to a family day out, rain or no rain, so we just packed a small tent for the kids and partied on!” said family man Shaun Swardt.
Despite the cold and wet weather, supporters danced the night away and still had a blast.
“I think it’s awesome that the event went on! Come hell or high water, we were excited about the event for months and nothing was going to stop us from getting our glow on,” said attendees, Lesliegh Clifford and Brad Michalaro.
When it came to organising the event, Tavis Brown and Alex Tarrao, founders of the Trace Mobile presents the Neon Run, said the glow must always go on.
“Although uncomfortable the weather wasn’t a safety concern – nothing an umbrella and a rain jacket couldn’t fix. So we decided to go ahead with the event as planned and as always Joburg showed us that a little rain wasn’t going to stop them from having a good time. We would like to thank all the legends, the die-hards and the true Neon Warriors for coming out, running and dancing in the rain with us. The atmosphere was truly electric – through rain or shine Johannesburg came to party,” they said.
Armed with ponchos and YOLO attitudes, runners chose to crawl, walk, run, roll, skip or ride their way through a wet and wild 5km neon wonderland. After the finish South Africa’s top DJs, TiMO ODV, Rubber Duc, Goodluck, Dean Fuel, Kyle Watson and iScream and the Chocolate Stix kept bodies moving and the heat and energy up all night long.
“We had such an amazing time last year and we didn’t to want to miss catching Goodluck and Rubber Duc live on stage,” said Iman Peters.
