Son launches Winnie’s book

GRANT Son from Ridgeway became the first black South African to write and publish a non-fiction book on Mam’ Winnie Madikizela Mandela.

On Freedom Day, April 27, Grant launched the book ‘A Freedom Soldier’s Heart – A tribute to Winnie Madikizela Mandela’. The event was held at Read Education Trust Campus in Ormonde.

Among the people who attended the launch were Honourable Mayor of Johannesburg Clr Parks Tau, chairman of the Winnie Madikizela Mandela Foundation Lunga Williams, chairman of the Tambo Foundation Trevor Tambo, chairman of the Black Management Forum Peace Ntuli and representatives from the South African Council of Churches.

The keynote address was by Anne Marie Bezdrob, the author of ‘Winnie Madikizela Mandela, a Life’. The movie ‘Winnie’ starring Oscar-winning actor Jennifer Hudson and Terence Howard was based on her book.

The host and MC was public and motivational speaker Phathisizwe Msezane and the readers of the books foreword, preamble, preface and about-the-author section were radio presenters Maxime Lennets, Justin Adams and Jade Seedat from Radio Eldos.

Grant’s wife, Chantel Shereece Son, who is also the chairman of Batho Phahameng Engineering was the event’s sponsor and ensured that the guests were well catered for and handed gifts for attending.

The book will be available at Exclusive Books, Bargain Books as well as online as an e-book from June 16.
