Mrs Independent

"If you can dream it, you can achieve it"

AN attorney by profession, a project manager by accident, a wife by choice and a mother by pure blessing, the South is proud to present its very own Mrs South Africa 2017 finalist, Tamzin Vassanjee.

Mrs South Africa 2017 finalist and mother of two beautiful daughters, Mishka (17) and Sian (13) was born in Bella Bella and was raised in the city of Johannesburg. Vassanjee owns her own practice (Vassanjee Attorneys) in order to afford her flexibility of time to dedicate to her two daughters, husband and her mother, who she considers to be the anchor of her home in the Eye of Africa.

Showing her interest lies more in brains than in beauty, the “small town girl at heart” specialises in company and property law, but her passion lies in criminal law and litigation.

“I was never interested in pageants and I stand by my belief that education is more important than anything else and beauty does not lie only on the outside but it about humility and having a good and consistent heart,” said Vassanjee. She added that she constantly reminds her daughters not to rely on physical appearances, which fade with time, but must empower themselves and not limit their minds.

Vassanjee’s eldest daughter, Mishka, is to thank for Vassanjee being one of the Mrs South Africa finalists, as she was the instigator behind her mother entering the pageant. “Mishka told me about Mrs South Africa and upon researching what it stands for I realised that it is not just about beauty, but the title actually stands for something and it truly is an empowerment programme. Since my entry I am amazed by the support I have received thus far from family, friends, work colleagues and the general public alike,” she said.

While practising law, Vassanjee was also able to nurture her love for design and form by studying project management. She has since established a project management and building company, Vassanjee Properties, and has been successfully operating it since 2005.

Married to her high school sweetheart Dharmendra, Vassanjee has always had a heartfelt concern for the elderly and regularly works with various old age homes and retirement villages in her area by way of educating them about the law in so far as it pertains to them. In conjunction with her husband’s pharmacy, Taurus Mulbarton Pharmacy, she attends to outreach programmes on health and wellness.

Door of Hope Children’s Mission, a shelter for abandoned and HIV positive infants, has a passionate supporter in the elegant couple, showing their outstanding teamwork in that the pharmacy sponsors all the diapers, formula and vaccines for the infants housed there.

Doing charity work for over five years now, Vassanjee loves having a full plate and being full of energy. She said, “I appreciate positivity in life and sometimes I can be a bit too hyper. Mrs South Africa has helped me learn more about myself and what I am capable of doing,” she said, laughing.

The forty-four-year-old Mrs South Africa hopeful is focused on being receptive to growth while setting a real example. “If you can dream it you can achieve it. ‘Stay true to yourself’ is my motto, and I plan on using this platform to bring the public’s attention to the needs of our elderly and retired,” said Vassanjee.

Prepping for the selection of the top 25 in April, Vassanjee said she is going in quite relaxed as she has all her sponsorships in hand and is hoping for continued voting and support from the public.
