Memorial service for killed JMPD

JMPD and Emergency Service held a memorial service for the JMPD officer who was run over and killed by a taxi.

ON Wednesday, March 23, JMPD and Emergency Service held a memorial service for the JMPD officer who was run over and killed by a taxi on March 15, on the City Deep Heidelberg Road.

The officer flagged down a taxi driver who was driving in the emergency lane, but the driver didn’t stop.

The JMPD officer was part of the law enforcement officers clamping down on motorists driving in the yellow lane, as part of the Kwanele Integrated Easter Operation Plan.

Edna Mamonyane from the JMPD confirmed that the driver was arrested on the day and is behind bars.

Gauteng MEC for Community Safety Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane has conveyed her condolences to the officer’s family.

“I am deeply disturbed by the utmost impunity exercised by some motorists, as this undermines law and order, which must prevail at all times. People must at all times obey the rules of the road irrespective of seeing law enforcement officers on the road. It is for their safety and the safety of other motorists alike. My deepest condolences to the bereaved family and colleagues respectively,” said Nkosi-Malobane.
