Security guard shot dead

Motive for the murder is still being determined.

A 19-year-old security guard, who was employed by an armed response company, in Walkerville, was shot dead while he was on duty at Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Catholic School, in Blougom Crescent, Liefde en Vrede.

At about 01:46 on March 18, three armed males, speaking Zulu, approached two security guards, aged 24 and 19, outside the school.

The robbers demanded keys and money.

The 24-year-old guard alleges he was taken to the bush area behind the school and tied up. A while later he managed to untie himself and went to ask the caretaker at the Maronite Church to assist him.

They went to the security room, where they found the 19-year-old shot in the upper body. Assistance was called for and the man was declared dead.

The motive for the murder is still being determined. No arrests have been made and Mondeor SAPS is investigating a murder case.

The owner of the armed response company couldn’t be reached for comment.
