Drug syndicate suspects arrested

The raid took place in the backdrop of a successful three days Anti-drugs Summit hosted by the department at the Johannesburg Correctional Services.

THE Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane, congratulates members of the SAPS for the arrest of seven suspects who are part of a drug syndicate operating between Eldorado Park and Potchefstroom.

The seven were arrested after a lengthy undercover operation by members of the Hawks, which saw a transaction of about R300 000. During the raid, 85 tablets of mandrax worth R5 000 and tik were seized. The raid took place as as backdrop to a successful three days Anti-drugs Summit (23 to 25 February) hosted by the department at the Johannesburg Correctional Services, aimed at finding innovative ways of dealing with the supply of drugs in the province.

“Thorough detective work and determination pays. I commend the police officers who worked around the clock to make a breakthrough in dismantling this syndicate. This demonstrates our unwavering war against the supply of drugs and ensuring that our province is safe and drug free. We need more officers of this calibre in our society. I urge our community members to work hand in hand with them to root out this heinous crime that is destroying the lives of our youth,” said MEC Nkosi-Malobane.
