FUNDRAISING: Chad Gifford used to watch movies at the venue where the Panorama Flea Market is now. He is now raising funds for charity by asking people to sponsor the Midmar 8 Mile Club to swim all eight Midmar Mile events. Chad is a double amputee who has won two gold, three silver and three bronze medals at the National Nedbank Disabled Championships and qualified for the 2010 World Championships for the Disabled in Eindhoven, Netherlands.
PANORAMA Flea Market on Kliprivier Drive is on one of the busiest markets in Johannesburg South. The flea market boasts over 400 stalls and is open every weekend and public holiday. A festival of music and entertainment happened on Sunday, January 31.
Diamond Dogs performed a selection of folk rock, original hits and cover songs to an appreciative audience. Rian Ungerer performed popular Afrikaans hits and original music of his own.
Panorama Flea Market is open on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 09:00 to 16:00. There is live entertainment every weekend as well as a licensed beer garden with big screen TV and a supervised children’s fun house (only R25 for the first two and a half hours).
BOOKS: Nico van Wyk at his stall Nick’s Bargain Books. He has been trading at Panorama for just over one year.
SPIDER LOVER: Jeetendra Mahesh with a Brazilian giant white knee tarantula, at the Tarantula Inn. The Tarantula Inn has been open for three years at Panorama and stocks spiders, snakes, geckos, scorpions, hamsters, fish, and the equipment and food needed to maintain them.
LIZARD: The Tarantula Inn stocks a variety of exotic pets including geckos, scorpions and snakes.
OWNER: Thandise Phida began her business at Panorama with only one stall which she has expanded into three units. She now employs 10 women.
BUSINESS: Susan Zackey at her stall at the Panorama Flea Market.
STARTING OUT: Moon Butt and Sherri Butt started their stall in December 2015. They are trying different things to make a success of their brand.
VETERAN: Mirian Dieb has had a stall at Panorama for 17 years and comes every single weekend and public holiday.
