Home flooded in Mulbarton

The homeowners are furious as the force of the water actually broke their front door, flooded a bedroom, went through the lounge and into the kitchen, out the back door and broke down a wall in their back garden.

A HOUSE in Park Drive, Mulbarton, was left flooded two weeks ago after heavy rain resulted in the storm water drain not being able to handle run-off water from the koppies, close to the house.

The homeowners are furious as the force of the water actually broke their front door, flooded a bedroom, went through the lounge and into the kitchen, out the back door and broke down a wall in their back garden. “We’ve had to pull up all the carpets and our wardrobes at the bottom have been left damaged, as well as the kitchen cabinets. The water was half way up the wall.”

They contacted ward 23 councillor Paul Smit, asking for his assistance in the matter. “Why the storm water drains are not cleaned out every year is beyond me. Why is it left until devastation takes place and homes are flooded?”

Eleanor Mavimbela, external communications officer, marketing and communications, from Johannesburg Water has been asked for comment.
