Police appealed to victims of incidents which might not have been reported to come forward.

Gauteng police said no major incidents were reported during New Year’s celebrations in the province.

Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said three people were killed at informal settlements at Bekkersdal, Roodepoort and Primrose. Two were shot and one stabbed to death. The motive for these killings are being investigated and no arrests have yet been made.

Several roadblocks, raids of several buildings in traditionally hot spot areas of Hillbrow and Joubert continued until few hours before midnight and four people were arrested for drug related offences. In Sunnyside 44 people were arrested last night for possession of drugs, drinking and driving, possession of suspected stolen property and liquor related offences, Dlamini said.

Seven arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol were reported in Randfontein while two sheebens were closed in Tarlton.

Police appealed to victims of incidents which might not have been reported to come forward. “This will help law enforcement agencies in their future planning and policing of New Year’s celebrations,” Dlamini said.
